How to get to the Błędów Desert – parking and viewpoints

Entry to the Błędów Desert (Pustynia Błędowska) is free and the area is open all year. The best way onto the sand is from one of three viewpoints: Róża Wiatrów, Czubatka or Dąbrówka Hill. The desert lies about 50 km north-west of Kraków and 40 km from Katowice, on the border of the Małopolska and Silesia regions. It is managed by the Klucze municipality.

- From Kraków: approx. 50 km, about 1 hour (via Olkusz or Wolbrom)
- From Katowice: approx. 40–60 km, 45–60 minutes (via Dąbrowa Górnicza or Bolesław)

Róża Wiatrów viewpoint
The largest tourist facility on the Błędów Desert, in its southern part. Its name (“Wind Rose”) comes from the layout of the gazebos and boardwalks, which from above resemble a compass rose.
How to get there
Take county road 1095K between Klucze and Bolesław. About 1 km from Klucze and 5 km from Bolesław there is a signposted turn onto a concrete road leading straight to Róża Wiatrów. The first car park by the turn-off is free. Further parking spaces are about 200 m before the site: the first 15 minutes are free, then cars and motorbikes pay PLN 5/h; coaches, campervans and caravans PLN 15/h.
What you will find
Covered wooden gazebos with seating, connected by boardwalks – a comfortable place for a picnic and a base for walks into the desert. Occasionally cultural, educational and sports events take place here. Facilities: toilets, wheelchair ramp, water hydrant. The site is lit and monitored, and illustrated boards tell the history of the desert.
Czubatka viewpoint
How to get there
Access only by car or motorbike. Coaches park on ul. Rudnicka in Klucze, next to the sports field. Route: Rudnicka, Podgórna and Górna streets; follow the brown tourist road signs.
What you will find
A wooden gazebo, benches and tables, a telescope and information boards with a map and panorama. The yellow walking trail (Ryczów–Błędów) leads from here onto the desert. The observation tower is used for fire detection and is not open to visitors.

How to get there
Follow the brown tourist road signs in Chechło, starting from ul. Kluczewska.
What you will find
A viewing platform with a telescope. Next to it are the remains of a WWII bunker and the concrete base of a former observation tower. Boards explain curiosities about the desert. The view covers the treeless part of the Błędów Desert, which is a military area closed to the public.
By public transport
- From Kraków: bus to Olkusz, then a local minibus to Klucze. There are also direct minibuses Kraków–Klucze (about twice a day).
- From the Klucze bus stop: about 40 minutes on foot along the yellow trail to the sand.
- From the Błędów Szkoła bus stop: about 1 hour on foot.
- From Katowice: train or bus to Dąbrowa Górnicza Ząbkowice, then a taxi.
Check timetables before you travel (Jakdojade or e-podroznik.pl), as services change.
Before you go
- Stay on marked trails. The northern part of the desert is a military training area and entry is prohibited.
- Wear comfortable shoes and bring water – in summer the sand gets very hot.
- There are no shops on the desert. Buy food in Klucze or Bolesław.

Is there an entry fee for the Błędów Desert?
No. Visiting, the trails and the tourist facilities are free. You only pay for parking at Róża Wiatrów after the first 15 minutes (PLN 5/h per car).
What are the opening hours?
The area is open 24 hours a day, all year round. The best light for photos is in the early morning and before sunset.
Where can I park?
The largest car park (approx. 60 spaces) is at Róża Wiatrów. Smaller ones are at Czubatka and Dąbrówka. Coaches park at Róża Wiatrów or on ul. Rudnicka in Klucze.
