Róża Wiatrów (“Wind Rose”) is the largest and easiest-to-reach viewpoint on the Błędów Desert. It stands on the southern edge of the desert, on the road between Klucze and Bolesław, about 50 km from Kraków. Entry is free and the site is open all year. Seen from above, its wooden gazebos and boardwalks form the shape of a compass rose – hence the name.

How to get to Róża Wiatrów
Take county road 1095K between Klucze and Bolesław. About 1 km from Klucze (5 km from Bolesław) there is a signposted turn onto a concrete road that leads straight to the site. From Kraków the drive takes about an hour (50 km); from Katowice about 45–60 minutes.

What to see and do
- Walk on the sand – the boardwalks lead straight onto the open, sandy part of the desert.
- Photography – the best light is early morning and before sunset, when the dunes cast long shadows.
- Picnic – the covered gazebos give shade and shelter from rain.
- Events – Róża Wiatrów is the main venue for events on the desert, including the “Tobruk 1941” historical re-enactment in July.
- More viewpoints – continue to Czubatka and Dąbrówka Hill.
With children and pushchairs
This is the best viewpoint for families: parking is close, the boardwalks have no steps, and there are toilets and a ramp. In summer bring water, a hat and closed shoes – the sand gets very hot.
Rules
Stay on marked paths and never drive onto the sand – motor vehicles are banned without a permit. The northern part of the desert is a military training area and entry is prohibited. Organised events and photo shoots require permission from the Klucze municipality – see our visitor rules.
